English after German / Eine englische Variante folgt dem deutschen Text
Geboren wurde Mati Shemoelof 1972 in Haifa, er ist Dichter, Herausgeber und Publizist. Nach seinen mit Auszeichnung abgeschlossenen Studium (Film und Geschichte) an der Universität Haifa, hat es bislang seben Bücher veröffentlicht, zuletzt 2019 in Deutschland den zweisprachigen Gedichtband Bagdad | Haifa | Berlin im AphorismA Verlag Berlin.
Ein
Eine erste Sammlung von Geschichten Remnants of the cursed book erschien 2014 (Kinneret Zmora Dvir, herausgegeben von Tamar Bialik und Yigal Schwartz) und wurde im gleichen Jahr mit dem „Yekom Tarbut“ Preis ausgezeichnet.
Das künftige Ufer – ein Radio-Feature wurde 2018 vom WDR ausgestrahlt. 2018 erschien in der Reihe Kleine Texte des AphorismA Verlages der Essay „… reißt die Mauern ein zwischen ‚uns‘ und ‚ihnen'“, der auf einer Rede in Berlin basiert und erstmals auch einige seiner Gedichte auf deutsch enthält.
Heute schreibt er eine englisch Kolumne für Plus 61J magazine. Er arbeitet neben seinem literarischen Schreiben im Bereich Kommunikation; er ist verheiratet und lebt mit Frau und Tochter in Berlin. Sie Internetpräsenz: https://mati-s.com

Mati Shemoelof was born in 1972 in Haifa. He is a poet, editor and writer. He graduated with honors from the University of Haifa where he studies Film and History. He has published seven poetry books so far. The last of these was published in Germany in 2019 in a bilingual edition „Bagdad | Haifa | Berlin“, published by AphorismA Verlag [Berlin]. His first article book “An eruption from the east: Re visiting the emergence of the Mizrahi artistic explosion and it’s imprint on the Israeli cultural narrative 2006-2019“ will be published on “Iton 77” publishers in Israel (2020).
His first collection of stories book „Remnants of the cursed book “ was published in 2014 (Kinneret Zmora Dvir, edited by Tamar Bialik and Prof. Yigal Schwartz) and won the „Yekom Tarbut“ site award for the same year.

His books have received various awards, including the Art Lottery Commission grant, a literature grant from the Rabinowitz Foundation, a scholarship from the Acum Foundation. He was among the founders of „Guerrilla Culture“ who connected artistic work and social struggle. In Berlin he founded “Poetic Hafla” group that creates literary & performances events. Now is working on a new literary project “Anu אנו نحن: Jews and Arabs writing in Berlin”.
He wrote columns and reviews on „Israel Hayom“ from the day he was founded until his departure from Israel (2007-2014). Then he wrote an „Israeli in Berlin“ column in the Haaretz newspaper (2015) and for today he writes an English column for Plus 61J magazine. He works in literary editing, and communication.
